Cents – Privacy policy

Last updated: October 9, 2026

Cents is an Android personal budget app. It is designed to work entirely on your phone.

Data collected

None, as far as the app is concerned. The app does not collect, receive or share any data about you. There is no account to create, no server, no advertising, and no analytics or tracking tool.

Where your data is

Your accounts, transactions, budgets, projects and settings are stored only in the app’s private storage on your device. The app does not have permission to access the Internet: it cannot send anything over the network.

The database is excluded from Android’s cloud backup. It is not encrypted by the app.

Exports and backups

You can export your data (a JSON file or a CSV spreadsheet) or turn on a weekly automatic backup to a folder you choose. These files are created where you tell the app to put them and are not encrypted: they hold all your finances in plain text. Protecting and sharing them is up to you.

Permissions

The app may ask for permission to show notifications (budget alerts, recurring transactions). It is optional: if you decline, the app works without notifications.

Deleting your data

Uninstalling the app, or clearing its storage in Android’s settings, deletes all the data it holds. Export and backup files you created stay where they are: delete them yourself.

Beta sign-up (website)

If you sign up for the beta from the website, the email address you enter is stored on the server of the site’s host (OVH) and emailed to me. I use it only to invite you to the app’s closed beta, and I share it with no one. It has no link with the app, which sends nothing. To have it deleted, write to me at the address below.

Children

The app is not aimed at children and collects no data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date above will be updated.
